Sunfish also caught. Lake Tarpon is regarded as one of the foremost sport
fishing lakes in Florida. Bass and bluegill are caught throughout the year
and crappie fishing is popular during the winter.
Anglers are most successful flipping or pitching
plastic worms along canal and bulrush edges. Offshore bass fishing is productive
for anglers who fish around ledges, humps, coontail, and eelgrass beds. Popular
lures offshore include shad-imitating jigs, crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater
baits. Fishing with wild shiners and live shad is also effective.

is a large natural harbor along the Gulf of Mexico on the western coast of
Florida, made up of Old Tampa Bay, Hillsborough Bay, McKay Bay, and New Tampa
Bay. It is bounded by Manatee County on the south, Pinellas County on the west,
and Hillsborough County on the east. Three prominent cities are located along
the shores of the bay, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. The Sunshine
Skyway Bridge crosses the mouth of Tampa Bay. Popular fishing species
