Florida via the Port Mayaca Lock on the east side of the lake and the Moore
Haven Lock on the lake’s western side.

This lake opens to the Atlantic ocean at the Port of Palm Beach via the Lake
Worth Inlet. The lake is a long channel that spans much of Palm Beach
County. Snook, Snappers, Tarpon and other game fish caught. Try
fishing for snook at the mouths of drainage canals when the water is flowing.
Fish around bridges at night for snook. Also fish at night or in the early
morning for tarpon.

Specializing in Largemouth Bass and Bluegill. Bream and Catfish also
caught. A good time for sunshine bass fishing is from October to February.
Fish early and late or even at night for bass using plastic worms, and casting
cut shrimp fished on the bottom. Bream and crappie abound and will take live
bait, jigs, or poppers. Try night fishing, especially during the summer months.

River Notes: The first
river in Florida designated as a National Wild and Scenic River. Fishing
species include blue crabs, mullet, snook, and tarpon. Bald cypress, pond
apple, orchid, and fern line the bank. Heron and osprey fly overhead. Wildlife
to watch include otter, raccoon, alligator, bobcat and, as the river’s name
suggests, turtles basking in the sun. The upper river is a delight to
kayakers and canoeists as it zigzags through a stunningly beautiful cypress
swamp. Shortly after entering Jonathan Dickinson State Park, the Loxahatchee
changes abruptly as it takes on the sedate character of an estuarine mangrove
swamp.
