Florida Fishing Reports

Florida Boat Hoists

Butler Chain of Lakes Fishing

Fish are biting on crank baits, top water and split shot rigged sinkos.

Lake Blue Cypress Florida Fishing

Largemouth bass anglers can expect to find fish between the weedline and the cypress trees in the southern portion of the lake and around grass or lily pads along other shorelines. The vegetated banks of Big M Canal and Zigzag Canal may also harbor a few good fish. Dark-colored plastic worms, topwater chuggers, propeller plugs, spinnerbaits, and live bait (golden shiners) are generally favored.  Big M Canal and Zigzag Canal should also be productive for panfish. Fly-rod popping bugs, small jigs, beetle spins, and live bait (crickets, grass shrimp and worms) are the favored methods.  Indian County River Florida Fishing

Florida Lakefront Homes

Clearwater Florida Fishing

Water temperatures have continued to climb, and most offshore species have started to move to deeper water. Depths from 90 feet out will yield the best bottom fishing, and anglers might encounter some pelagic species as well. Gag and red grouper will be on hard bottom and ledges that are holding bait stacks. This is when a live bait offering is best. Large pinfish the size of a hand tend to produce larger fish and will deter the red snapper that have almost been a nuisance with their numbers and aggressive feeding habits. For those who have caught their limit of grouper, switch to lighter tackle and small bait offerings to entice a wide variety.  Beyond 100 feet of water, trolling can be very effective as you search for new fishing spots. Four-inch Billy Baits trolled at 6 to 10 knots work for most pelagic fish. Mahi mahi, wahoo, blackfin tuna and an occasional sailfish might appear. Troll a couple of lures out each side then put one down the middle way back as the tunas are very shy of the boat.

Crescent Lake Florida Fishing

Crescent Lake has been strong for bass fishing. Fishing guides are throwing topwater lures early and late, but you had better have shiners the remainder of the day.  Try the deeper edges of the bulrush and grass patches along the west shore of the lake. Flagler County Florida Fishing

Florida Campgrounds

Deerpoint Lake Florida Fishing

Try fishing in early morning or late afternoon along the weedlines of the old creek channels in Bear, Econfina, and Cedar Creeks and along the south side of Bayou George. Try fishing for bass with dark-colored artificial worms, live shiners, and weedless lures.  Bay County Florida Fishing

Everglades Fishing

Bass 4-6 pounds are biting Gambler Swim Blades, Flap n' Shads and spinnerbaits on the flats and at the entrance to the flats at the south end of Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Lots of small bass are biting at STA 3/4.

Florida Everglades Fishing

Lake Harney Fishing

Lake Harney has been good for bass and crappie. Bass are in shallow water near cover. Use Carolina-rigged plastic worms and soft plastic jerkbaits. Plastic toads and lizards work best in the first hours of daylight. Crappie are in deeper waters of the lake. Minnows and jigs work well.

Harris Chain of Lakes Fishing

The Harris Chain has been very good for bass. Fish Lake Eustis and Lake Harris with plastic worms and spinnerbaits. Work cover and the edges of reeds and grass. A few fish can be found in open waters hitting soft plastic jerkbaits and Rat-L-Trap lures. Topwater lures and plastic toads work well the first few hours of daylight. Bluegills and shellcrackers are bunched up near docks and vegetation hitting redworms and crickets.  Lake County Florida Fishing

Fishing Hot Spots

Osborne Chain of Lakes Fishing

Peacock bass are being taken regularly in the lake by anglers working spinnerbaits, stickbaits and topwater plugs - the smaller the better. Anglers have also been catching a lot of bluegill and numerous small bass along the shoreline edges especially in and around vegetated areas. Grass shrimp, crickets, small jigs have been the preferred baits for bluegill, which should continue to cooperate through October. Most bass are taken on live baits such as shad and shiners. However, many can be taken in the early morning with topwater lures and later in the day with plastic worms and crankbaits. Jigs and live minnows should be excellent producers. Nice size channel catfish can be caught using chicken liver or live worms. Mayan cichlids continue to be prominent in the lake and can be taken near shore next to the vegetation using grass shrimp, live worms, crickets, and small artificial lures such as beetle spins and jigs. Palm Beach County Florida Fishing

Florida Fishing Boats

Indian River Florida Fishing

Fish the Indian River just south of the NASA Causeway for redfish, trout and a few black drum. Shrimp and crabs are the best bait selections. If you find a big group of fish, use flies with crab patterns. Spoons and shrimp imitation lures are also effective.

Indian River Florida Fishing

Lake Monroe Florida Fishing

Try Lake Monroe for bass and crappie. Bass can be found near hydrilla and reeds. Fish with spinnerbaits and crankbaits or drift with shiners for best results. You can catch crappie on minnows and jigs in 3-to-6 feet of water. You can also catch plenty in front of the old Enterprise Power Plant.

Florida Bay/10,000 Islands Fishing

Lots of snook were biting around the outside islands and in the river mouths. Sea trout have been plentiful in the bay.

Florida Keys Fishing

Lots of dolphin, including some 30-pounders, were biting offshore and anglers were catching limits of yellowtail snapper on the reef. Tarpon were biting around the bridges early and late in the day.

Florida Keys Fishing

Kissimmee Chain of Lakes Fishing

Limits of shellcracker are being caught by those who know how. Bass catches are great, with good numbers of big fish caught. Bass 8 to 10 pounds have been caught.

Kissimmee Chain Of Lakes Fishing

Lake Istokpoga Florida Fishing

Bass in the 8-pound category are available, mostly on live shiners. Bluegill are bedding.

Miami Dade Fishing

Anglers have been catching kingfish, sharks, dolphin and a few mutton snappers. Reported catches of cobia to 32 pounds, kingfish to 12 pounds and mutton snappers along the outer reef line in 800-plus feet of water. Dolphins to 15 pounds are feeding along broken weedlines.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing

The Mosquito Lagoon has been very good for slot-sized redfish and big trout. Work flats on both sides, focusing on spoil islands and sand holes. Soft plastic jerkbaits and shrimp imitation lures both work well. Topwater lures are effective at daybreak.

Sarasota Florida Fishing

Trout action is great, with trout in the 3- to 4-pound class taken. There are lots of snook and redfish on the flats. Trout, mackerel and pompano were caught on flies.

Sebastian Inlet Fishing

The Sebastian Inlet has been good for snook. Fish both sides near the bridge with pinfish, pigfish, shrimp for best results. Wind Cheaters and Bucktail jigs also will produce strikes.

Lake Okeechobee Florida Fishing

Bass fishing has been good, with the fish moving inshore and biting topwater lures, swim baits and stick worms from the North Shore to Kreamer Island. Bluegills were biting Beetle-Spins.

Lake Okeechobee Florida Fishing

Orange Lake Florida Fishing

Bass are taking a wide variety of artificial baits around grass and lily pad beds, bluegill and shellcracker are bedding around the same shallow cover, and speckled perch have gone on a surprisingly strong warm-weather bite out in the water from 4-6 feet deep.

Orange Lake Florida Fishing

Lake Tarpon Florida Fishing

Bass 6 to 8 pounds are being caught, mostly on live shiners. Bluegill also are chewing well.

Lake Tarpon Florida Fishing

Lake Panasoffkee Florida Fishing

Speckled perch are still being caught. Lots of yearling bass are being caught on artificial worms and live shiners.

Lake George Florida Fishing

Try Lake George in Astor for bass and panfish. Bass will hit spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Work spinnerbaits near lily pads and trees and use crankbaits in open waters. Drifting with shiners should produce plenty of action. Soft plastic jerkbaits and plastic worms work well in grassy waters. Bluegills, shellcrackers and bream can be found near vegetation in 2-to-4 feet of water. Redworms, crickets and small popping lures all work well. Catfish can be found in deeper waters hitting cut liver, nightcrawlers and minnows.  Putnam County Florida Fishing

Lake Griffin Florida Fishing

Fish near canals and vegetation in Lake Griffin for plenty of bluegills and shellcrackers. Use redworms and crickets or switch to small poppers and flies. Bass can be found near lily pads and drop-offs. Use swimbaits, spinnerbaits or trick worms.

Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes Fishing

Live golden shiners are always good in this system for largemouth bass. Use crickets and worms on the bottom for bluegill and redear sunfish. Water moving through any canal (whether by wind or current) is a likely spot for largemouth bass to congregate. However, until water levels rise these canals can be very shallow and difficult to navigate. Continue to target submerged willow tree bases for these sanctuaries are known holdouts for largemouths. Texas-rigged plastic worms with no weight will allow anglers to flip baits within the security of these shaded environs. Black crappie fishing picks up this time of year and many successful anglers dip hooked minnows close to lily pads.  Citrus County Florida Fishing

Lake Seminole Florida Fishing

Seminole is currently producing some truly outsized bass for a lake so far north. We're seeing a lot of 5- to 6-pound fish on a regular basis. The lake has a huge shad population, so there's lots of forage.  Those shad play a key role for fall anglers on this lake. So too, does hydrilla.  Though any deep hydrilla edge can hold fish, savvy anglers often find them faster by concentrating on irregularities along the edge. Bends in a creek channel, points where one channel intersects with another, or the sharp end of a drop from a shoreline flat can all pay off.  Bass actively feed on shad, but may not be chasing them in open water. Often, the largemouths are ambushing from the edge of the hydrilla. Frogs or white Trick Worms have proven deadly when twitched over those edges. Topwater plugs like the venerable Zara Spook or virtually any of the "chugger" baits like the Rebel Pop-R or Storm Chug Bug can be effective.  Jackson County Florida Fishing

Lake Seminole Florida Fishing

St. Johns River Fishing

Try the St. Johns River near Lemon Bluff for bass. Fish with spinnerbaits near lily pads. Crankbaits work better in open waters near drop-offs. Plenty of panfish can be caught near vegetation or turns. Crickets and redworms work best. St. Johns County Florida Fishing

Florida Bass Fishing Tips

1. Fish the down-wind side of a lake in sustained, heavy wind. In this situation forage will be concentrated on that side of the lake and bass will move in to feed. A spinnerbait is a good choice when fishing for these aggressive fish.

2. When fishing on high-pressure days, fish deeper water. Bass are often suspended right off the bottom because the barometric pressure has decreased the amount of air in their air sack. This causes them to move into deeper water because they have to exert more effort to hold in shallow water.

3. Floating crayfish crankbaits produce well on rocky points, dams, and shores. Crank it until you hit bottom and pause. This resembles a crawdad it it’s natural, defensive position.
