Lake Sampson

Closest Town:  Starke

Lake Size:  2,042 Acres

Lake Notes:  Specializing in Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie and Bluegill.  Redear and Sunshine Bass also caught.  Lake Sampson offers good largemouth bass fishing during February, March and April when the fish move into the maidencane, hydrilla and lily pad shoreline areas to spawn. The best baits for spring fishing are spinner baits and purple and blue artificial worms.  Black crappie fishing is fair with the best months being January, February and March. Live minnows drifted near the bottom are a proven bet. Bluegill and redear fishing is very good during April, May and June when the fish move into the maidencane to spawn. The best baits are live worms and crickets. Sunshine bass are a local favorite and provide good action during the winter months.

Crosby Lake

Closest Town:  Starke

Lake Size:  400 Acres

Lake Notes:  Specializing in Largemouth Bass and Black Crappie.  Bluegill and Redear also caught.  Crosby Lake has decent bass fishing throughout the year. The best baits are small float-diving type lures and small purple and black artificial worms.  Crappie fishing can be excellent for smaller fish. The best fishing is around the brush-type fish attractors using live minnows fished about three feet deep.

Rowell Lake

Closest Town:  Starke

Lake Size:  363 Acres

Lake Notes:  Specializing in Largmouth Bass, Crappie and Bluegill.  Redear and Sunshine Bass also caught.  Rowell Lake offers excellent largemouth bass fishing from January through June. The best baits are purple and black artificial worms. Live shiners are usually productive and should be drifted in open-water areas. Artificial lures should be fished along the cypress tree shoreline.  Crappie fishing is excellent with the favorite bait being live minnows drifted in open water. Bluegill and redear grow at a fast rate in eutrophic lakes and offer good fishing. Live worms and crickets work best when the fish move into the cypress tree shoreline. The best months are April, May and June.  Sunshine bass fishing is excellent in the winter months.
